Akoya, the first cultured pearl
Akoya, the product of Akoya oysters, is known as the first cultured pearl introduced to the market, and also for its elegance and enchanting luster. Though Akoya oysters can be found all around Japan, pearl cultivation is concentrated in the Southwest area of the country. The warm water temperature, tidal flow, and richness in plankton, makes this area suitable to culture quality pearls.

Quality of Pearls
A work of art of "5%"
The ideal pearl we seek for: high quality, no blemishes, and perfect sphere. Generally, in the process of pearl cultivation, among all of the nuclei inserted oysters, approximately half fail to culture pearls, 25% produce low quality pearls, 20% are somehow marketable. Even with the enormous effort and commitment to pearl cultivation, only 5% of the total harvest is ranked in the level of highest quality. With its rich luster and allure, this 5% becomes nothing less than a work of art.

The rainbow over pearls
Color, shape, blemish, size..... many factors determine the beauty of pearls. But among all, "luster" is the definitive factor. A high quality pearl will seem as if it glows from the inner core of the pearl. This is because the luster is the reflection of light, not only on the surface of the pearl, but on the many layers of the pearly layer surrounding the nucleus at the core of the pearl. The smooth curve of the pearl's round shape creates a unique effect, a rainbow appearing over the pearl, which is produced by the refraction of light.

Pearls will dress you up,but our pearls are kept natural
Having confidence in the quality, we believe our pearls do not necessarily have to be "dressed up". Kakuda's main products are the non-treated pearls, which do not add anything to the harvested pearl. The tender luster will naturally blend in with the color of your skin.

Overseas cultivation farm
Close to the equator.Pearls nurtured by the sun and sea.
The Republic of Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic state, consisted of 17,500 islands located on both the East and West sides of the equator. Our priority conditions for a farm site were a location with quiet waves, appropriate tidal rhythm, and abundant planktons as bait for the oysters. Upon careful investigation, our choice was Dayan at Raja Ampat, sea of paradise. Located Northeast of Bali, Dayan receives pleasant breeze from the sea, and helps us cool down from the strong sun.

Astonished with its beauty from the very moment the oyster is opened
Every day at the farm, we continue to talk to the silent oysters. A tremendous amount of data is collected and analyzed with patience. Cultivation is a repetition of steady efforts, and an accumulation of dedication and concentration. Beautiful pearls are the rewards to such daily and consistent commitment. White in color, smooth texture, deep luster and perfect round curve. Being astonished with the beauty of the pearl, from the very moment the oyster is opened. That is the kind of pearl we continue to request to the sea.

South Sea pearls, fascinating from pearl to shell
For South Sea oysters, the shell itself is a work of art. Its delicate, but unique luster will capture our hearts and will not let go. The characters of historical novelist, Ryotaro Shiba's short story, "Evening Party on Thursday Mokuyobi no yakai", are also charmed by the beauty of South Sea pearls. (The main character of the story, Mr. Fujii, worked for Kakuda Pearl co.) South Sea oysters have a large shell, enabling pearls to be of larger sizes. The South Sea pearls of Kakuda has a high reputation for its sharp luster.
