Corporate Philosophy

Kazo Kakuta, founder and first president of Kakuda Pearl, started business in Shima province (current Shima city) of Mie prefecture as a broker of pearls. For more than 80 years since then, the company has continued to produce high quality pearls. Today, based on the trust built with our customers over the years, we have expanded our sales activity globally. Kakuda has and will continue to engage in operation without compromising our belief in "quality first".

From non-mainstream to mainstream
Kakuda was ahead of other companies to begin breeding Akoya oysters, now commonly done in the pearl industry. Currently, the capacity of the nursery company in our group has grown to one million Akoya oysters. Kakuda also had an early focus on opportunities overseas, and was the third company after the world war to start pearl cultivation outside of Japan. Our group company in Indonesia has developed to become a large South Sea pearl farm with an annual production size of 100 thousand oysters.

By developing people, we develop pearls
Our corporate culture of not compromising with pearl production has not only continued to produce top quality pearls, but has also developed people. Just to name a few, there is Muroi Tadaroku who was the first in the world to succeed in cultivating Black South Sea pearls, and Junichi Hamaguchi, a Japanese partner to the world's largest pearl cultivator. In order to grow the best quality pearls, we must develop quality people that can handle those pearls. Focus on people development is the secret to the beauty of Kakuda's pearls.
